ISP Painting is a national commerical painting company. All of their project management software is web based. That's where I come in. It's a smaller company so I had to wear a lot of hats doing maintenance and additions to the front end and back end of the software and handling system administrator needs.

Just5Clicks.com was an online application that monitored state level testing. It partnered with schools at the district level and helped track progress of children nation wide with everything from online testing to custom services and technology that read scantrons. I helped revamp their development environment and their codebase.

  • codebase was not modular when I arrived, rewrote the codebase in MVC format
  • Automated several manual tasks that were consuming much of the work day
  • Architected and setup development and production environments using Microsoft technologies (WAMP stack)
  • Optimized SQL queries for performance, relevance, and security
  • Edited ASP.NET code at beginning but ultimately rewrote it into PHP
  • Updated security by keeping certain things offsite, protecting from SQL injection, and enforcing better passwords
  • Began to add new features
  • Started the redesign of the SCHEMA
Sears Holdings Corporation Senior Front End Developer August 2009 -- November 2010
Sears Holding is a mix-match of several different retail sites. I had the pleasure of working on nearly all of them. This was the largest development team for me ranging from 2 to 30 depending on the project. It was very fast paced and dead-line oriented work. I worked closely with several other teams to bring the full picture of the site together while finding time to take care of things we wanted to get done.

Tom Rowe and Associates is a web development firm in Harlingen, TX that specializes in making websites for dealerships that sell industrial vehicles. That includes everything from riding mowers, to combines, to bulldozers. I had a great time here working with clients and starting from ideas or whisps of wind, working closely with people from across America and Canada to build out a fully functional site with widgets and add-ons before they were called widgets and add-ons.

The Starcast Network was primarily a closed connection TV network that had video jukeboxes and video content displaying at bars all around the Chicago Land area. I originally started contracting for this company lending my videographer skills and was pleased to take up the roll of Video Production Manager when they offered it to me. I would find myself wearing several hats from web developer, to content designer, to script writer, and even to a manager; hand ling a small crew of videographers and editors.

Freelance work can be grueling but is always worth it. I primarily took on freelance work to just help get better at web development, and I must have be doing something right because I'm always back at it when referalls come my way or old clients have out grown their last site and want another bigger better one. It gives me a chance to stretch all my creative muscles and do something usually completely different from what I'm doing at work.
